Madhushala and yearning for Hindi Literature

I am part of the band of people who really like to read literature for places I plan to visit on holiday. On this visit to India, I found myself thrown back to the world of Hindi literature -- and the poetry classes in school. Madhushala, the magnum opus of Harivashrai Bachchan really evokes so many feelings. Like the Sufi tradition it is inspired from the poem leaves the interpreter to work through what it means to them.

Manna Dey gives it an amazing life.

मेरी हाला में सबने पाई अपनी-अपनी हाला,
मेरे प्याले में सबने पाया अपना-अपना प्याला,
मेरे साकी में सबने अपना प्यारा साकी देखा,
जिसकी जैसी रुचि थी उसने वैसी देखी मधुशाला।।१३१।

मैं मदिरालय के अंदर हूँ, मेरे हाथों में प्याला,
प्याले में मदिरालय बिंबित करनेवाली है हाला,
